It was just a few months before Franz Schubert passed away in November of 1828 that Ignaz Bösendorfer received his license to begin producing instruments under his own name. And on the occasion of Franz Schubert's 200th birthday in 1997, Bösendorfer created the exquisite Schubert Edition Piano as a testament to this great composer.
The era in which the young Ignaz Bösendorfer was realizing his dreams was an exceptionally rich and sensitive one in terms of music. It also coincided with the period whose style of painting, literature and furniture has been known since the beginning of the 20th Century as Biedermeier (generally dated between 1815 and 1848). The design of the instrument combines elements of this period with more contemporary lines in the legs and the lyre. Gracefully floating between past and present, the Franz Schubert Bösendorfer nods to that composer whose own ravishing works for the piano are still so cherished today.
