Since its inception, Bösendorfer has always kept itself well abreast of artists working in other crafts and trades to the end of furthering its own artistic innovations. And, as Bösendorfer has evolved over the more than 175 years since, it has come to cultivate a certain proximity to the leading architects and designers of the contemporary era to build pianos which best underline the instrument's value as a canvas for authentic, contemporary style.

In 1990, the well-known Austrian architect Hans Hollein was commissioned to create the visually stunning Bösendorfer Hollein Limited Edition. The Hollein piano is red, gold, and black, and captivates onlookers with its legs and lyre of solid brass. The inside surface of the top lid is refined with inlaid work of 24 carat gold leaf.

The Hollein piano is an instrument which follows the Bösendorfer tradition of eternal contemporaneity with a personality which speaks quite clearly to the present.
