At the turn of the 20th century, the race for the tallest building in the world began and the Chrysler building at 1045 feet high claimed the title to beat the then-tallest-the Eiffel Tower. The Chrysler's topmost spire was actually even constructed in secret inside the building to keep rival developing buildings from knowing its true height until completion! As an early embodiment of the Art Deco style, this building was actually only able claim to be the "World's Tallest" for a single year (as the Empire State Building neared completion), but remains nevertheless at the top of many lists for "World's Most Beautiful." And it is this majesty to which Bösendorfer here pays its own respects with a novel Art Deco rendering.
This superb instrument's background veneer is dark oak. The underside of the lid, the fall- board and the music desk, are rendered in an intricate pattern of brushed stainless steel and veneers including burl walnut, amboyna, and figured maple. Vienna and New York, Bösendorfer and the Chrysler Building, all meet here under the hands of the craftsman to pay homage to the spirit of a glorious epoch.
